Rosen's Story: Finding Herself Again After Cancer
Following lung cancer surgery, Rosen needed help with the practical demands of life at home. What she found was a local team that gave her space to focus on herself again.

Life changed after a cancer diagnosis
Rosen was diagnosed with lung cancer in July 2023 and travelled to Sydney for surgery. Returning home brought a new set of challenges. Home maintenance, gardening, shopping, transport and everyday domestic tasks had all become harder to manage while she recovered.
A local recommendation opened the door
Friends who understood the local care system pointed Rosen towards DANS. Their confidence gave her somewhere to begin, but it was the way the team listened to her circumstances that turned a recommendation into a trusted relationship.
Support shaped around real life
Care was built around what Rosen actually needed, including practical help at home and support to arrange equipment such as a scooter, shower chair and new bed. Each piece of assistance reduced pressure and made daily life feel more manageable.
Space to focus on herself again
Before DANS, Rosen felt her quality of life had narrowed. With dependable support around her, she could begin directing more time and energy towards herself rather than constantly working around what she could no longer do alone. The people providing that care became part of her wider circle of support.
“They're human beings like me. They're very caring, and they've assisted me along the way, and they do a wonderful job.”
— Rosen Barker, DANS client
