‘Dementia’ describes the symptoms of a large group of diseases that causes a progressive decline in a person’s cognition and ability to function. It is not a specific disease.

It is often a positive decision for a person with dementia to remain in their home. It can usually provide a higher level of environmental support than a nursing home or hostel.

The best living environment for a person with dementia is one that allows them to be as independent, comfortable and safe as possible.

A Caring Home

  • Be familiar
  • Be orientating
  • Support independence
  • Engage participation in tasks rather than promote passivity
  • Promote self esteem
  • Reinforce the person’s sense of identity
  • Promote safety

People with dementia have unique and specific needs. No two clients are the same, so their care must be tailored to suit their individualised condition.

Testimonial - Client's Family

Thank you from the bottom of our heart for the daily support, care and friendship that D.A.N.S. provided to my father. Remaining in his own home allowed him to live life and fulfil his interests with dignity. We are indeed fortunate to have such a wonderful support service available.

The D.A.N.S. staff are excellent, friendly and always on time. My carer (who is the same every time) is conscientious, and has a desire to do her job properly and with pride.
